Zak began playing the clarinet at the age of 8 and saxophone at the age of 9. As a teenager I studied the clarinet studied with Colin Lawson before attending the RNCM to study with Paul Dintinger and John Reynolds.

 

Zak has played with various artists such as Mick Hucknall, Narada Michael Walden, Bernie Marsden, Ashley Slater (Freak Power), Reg Webb, "the Foundations" and "The Real Thing". As a graduate of the Royal northern College of Music, he had the opportunity to perform as a classical musician at the Royal Albert Hall, the Wigmore Hall and also play on Naxos recordings with the RNCM wind ensemble. He is currently a member of "the Fellowship" band which features Guthrie Govan and Pete Riley and have performed in venues in the United States, Italy (headlining the Eddie Lang Festival) and Istanbul.

 

As well as performing Zak has been heavily involved with teaching since his graduation in 1999. He has worked as a course leader on the Essex Jazz Course 2014 and also runs jazz workshops with Dan Banks in the Southend area.
